Linework

The astronaut fellow is a piece for an upcoming group show at L'Keg Gallery in Echo Park. The other is a work in progress for the mini-comic I'm hoping to have done for Wondercon in April. Yeah!

And for the next convention...

So APE was beyond fantastic...had a good time with good people, sold a fair amount of my stuff, and played enough video games to hold me over until my next visit up north. I've already reserved tables for a few upcoming conventions and am very excited about my next round of projects, so I'll start posting that stuff up as it gets done.
For now, my one sketchbook page from the trip and zine folding!

I'm going to be at the APE convention in about a month and will have a booth with some friends from up north. Subsequently I'm working on a bunch of stuff to take with me...it's going to be a crazy next 4 weeks. Here's a work in progress! Excuse the iphone picture...scanner down.

003 and more...

So here is 003...my teacher Daniel suggested I try doing one without filling up the whole page. I'm pretty happy with it, the negative space type was fun so I'll probably use that again for some other stuff.

The Gene Shallot painting was for a celebrity portrait assignment...I'm pretty happy with the results. Some of the colors aren't totally there for me, but considering how little I paint I think it was a solid first portrait effort.

This is a work in progress, I'm just stoked on the drawing. More pieces soon!

002

Here it is!! I'm working on some more pieces that should be up sometime by next Monday or Tuesday. In non-illustration news, my band Swordfights played the scene in Glendale last night and it was awesome...there's a ton of photos and a video or two that were allegedly taken so I'll put some of those up as soon as I get my hands on them.

Comic-Con 2009

Comic-Con was crazy! I spent the majority of my time stalking the independent publishers and artists in the small press section and met a lot of awesome people while shamelessly plugging my own work. Amidst the dozens of panels I went to I found a little bit of time to bust out the sketch book.

As a side note, my personal highlight of the weekend was at the screening of the Green Lantern animated film on Thursday evening when Bruce Timm led a chorus of 5000 or so in the Green Lantern oath. Pure, unadulterated geekiness. It was awesome.

001

So here is a proper scan of the first one...i'll be at Comic-Con for the next 5 days, but if I find a scanner at my friend's house I'll upload 002 sometime tonight or tomorrow. If not hopefully by sunday.

Freaking Finally!

Pretty much finished! I'm going to scan it in later but I wanted to put it on the internet because I heard that validates me as an artist. Significant Cities 001...

Also, I've been super obsessed with the movie "Brick" (2005, directed by Rian Johnson) because it's awesome, so I made a fake comic book cover for it. The likenesses are more accurate in spirit than physical form, but whatever. Cause it kicks ass.

So I drew stuff...

I've been experiencing an increase in productivity in various creative endeavors which has been a nice change of pace. Here are a couple of sketchbook pages which should be followed by a couple of finished pieces as soon as my scanner decides to work again. Also, the picture is from the most recent Swordfights show...our equipment looked really cool and I felt the need to share.

oakland

I went to oakland this past weekend and meant to draw a lot more than I did. Here is my one sketchbook page. The happy face is courtesy of John Mathis. Or Brynn Metheney. I can't remember who drew it.

never admit it's your last stand!!

after months, and months, and months, and even more months of recording, my band Swordfights finally finished and released our first full length "Never Admit it's Your Last Stand".  I did the artwork for the record...here it is!!
The second pressing (which will be in late April/early May)  is going to be in color...

You should totally go to our myspace page and listen to some tracks...If you check out the back cover image, you'll see the 'copyright significant cities 2009'...Significant Cities is the label we're going to be releasing all the Swordfights music under, and I'll also be using it as a publishing umbrella for my own (and hopefully some other people's) artwork. I'm working on some pieces for it now so hopefully I'll have those up within the next week or so. Thanks for reading.
